Classes are really reving up at Stevens, and second semester Freshman year is extremely challenging and but also a lot of fun! I’m currently in Mechanics of Solids, which is a third semester course described in the SIT Course Catalog as: “Fundamental concepts of particle statics, equivalent force systems, equilibrium of rigid bodies, analysis of trusses and frames, forces in beam and machine parts, stress and strain, tension, shear and bending moment, flexure, combined loading, energy methods, statically indeterminate structures.” I’m having so much fun, because it’s such a cerebral class. Our professor told us on the first day “I find that in high school, you’re taught to memorize and chug through math problems. I don’t want you to do that here. I want you to think, then solve.”
We just had our first test, and due to the excellent preparation by our professor, it was perfectly manageable. Next week, we have a test in Differential Equations, so I must bid you adeu.
