I apologize for the lack of blogging, between being sick and tying up a bunch of loose ends I have not had a lot of time. But despite being sick, I have had a pretty great May.
So most recently, a bunch of my classmates and I volunteered at the Special Olympics in DC. It was so nice to get out of the library and do something for the community. We had a really great time at the Opening Ceremony, and then helped out at the Volleyball event (pretty fortunate for me).
Something that we didn't expect: dance parties. Before and after the Opening Ceremonies there were dance parties on the floor. We LOVED it, and tried to keep up with the athletes but were out of breath before they were.
I went to the Strathmore Theater in Bethesda with a friend to see Feist. I have wanted to see this venue for a while. The concert was incredible, and the level of musical talent was impressive.
I also had the chance to visit a lot of the monuments at night. It was so relaxing to be by the water and see the sights at a less busy time. I think they're more beautiful at night.
And being sick encouraged me and my sister to continue our Pho tour of Northern Virginia.
Two weeks ago, we had our first OSCE (Observed Structured Clinical Exam). It was set up so that we had 15 minutes in the room with our patients to get a complete medical and social history. After the 15 minutes we were given our next assigned patient and had another 15 minutes. It was exciting, and I think we all benefited from the experience. Aside from this I finished my Mind Body Medicine course, my Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder course, my Evidence Based Medicine course, and on Tuesday I will be done with the first year of Physical Diagnosis. And I will be done with my first year on June 4th. Holy cow.
Congratulations to the Class of 2012! Go Ducks!
