I LOVE BEING HOME!
Yesterday the team got back from Argentina, and we all nearly kissed the ground when we got off the bus outside Tech! We kissed the ground not because the trip wasn't fun but because we all missed home!
Definitely check the stevensducks.com website to read the team's blogs about the trip!
To explain a little bit about Argentina:
1) There are stray dogs all over. I am a dog lover, and it was a shame to see all these dogs without homes.
Fun fact, however... I did a workout with my teammates that involved running to a sculpture/monument called La Flor which was around 2 miles away from the hotel. When we got to La Flor, we did a Crossfit workout on the grass and made a new friend...a dog that we nicknamed Jerry. Our little friend lead/followed us all the way back to the hotel!
2) Apparently I look intimidating yet young. That doesn't make sense, because it doesn't make sense to me either. I got seriously patted down in the airport and was accused of having a dangerous sports bra. Weird. I also was asked if I was 15 years old when we went dancing at a tango restaurant.
Another fun fact, my sister and I were asked to take a picture with one of the men working the front desk at the hotel, because I don't think he has ever seen identical twins before!
3) Field hockey is a way of life there! It is the number one women's sport. Walking down the streets, you could see "Las Leonas" jerseys and field hockey sticks in the windows. It was a big difference from here in Los Estados Unidos. BTW, Las Leonas is the nickname that Argentinians use to refer to the women's national field hockey team.
4) THANK GOODNESS I KNOW SPANISH! I am literally going to email my Spanish teacher from high school to thank her right after I finish this blog! It was very helpful when we were out places, whether it be restaurants, the orphanage, or post-game dinner with the teams that we played.
5) EVERYTHING has sugar on it. I don't understand it. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, they've all got foods coated in sugar. And despite the sweets being EVERYWHERE, there are like no overweight people.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the update. I have to get my apartment ready and mentally prepare for preseason! We have a team meeting tonight and the fitness starts at 7am tomorrow.
The trip was so much fun!
BTW congrats and good luck to all the freshmen moving in now! :)
