Being that the semester has wound down (OFFICIALLY HAVE NO MORE WORK TO DO - can you tell I'm excited!), I have had the time to go to a few cool places the past few days....
It was awesome! I went there on Tuesday night to watch the Yankees play the Kansas City Royals. It was my first MLB game!
The last Women's Programming event of the year was held at Lore El this evening. It is the semesterly occurrance called "De-Stress Me Massage Night" and was (as usual) held in the Lore El Center.
This event is about taking the stress out of the lives of the women on campus. For the women who sign up, they get a FREE 10 minute massage! It's amazing! I got my massage done and feel so great now!
Anyways, in order to help out with the event, the women of Lore-El volunteer to take attendance at the event to make sure the women are going in to get their massages at the right time. We also took it upon ourselves to provide the refreshments for the event (paid for by Women's Programming of course) but homemade with love from the women of Lore El. I went shopping yesterday to pick up water, milk, cookie ingredients, and a platter of fruit. One of the residents Molly and I spent time today baking for the event! We made snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and funfetti cookies for the women to enjoy while they waited.
The event was a huge success as usual! It truly was a night of de-stressing massages and delicious food!

This morning I was privileged to be invited to the Student Leadership Awards Brunch. Held in the Bissinger Room on the fourth floor of the Howe Center, it was a very classy event aimed at recognizing the leadership of students and faculty on campus. There were a number of awards given, some to recognize up-and-coming leaders (particular kudos to my residents in Lore-El that were honored), some to recognize distinguished student leaders, some to recognize leaders dedicated to volunteering, and some to recognize the tireless work that the staff and faculty do.
Note: All of the recipients were nominated by the student body.
It was an honor to be invited as part of Gear & Triangle and also because I was fortunate enough to receive an individual award as well, a Distinguished Leader Award. I am thankful not only for the recognition but also because I got a sweet plaque too!
After four years of being an active student leader, an event like this is extremely rewarding and is a great way to end my collegiate career. Although the recognition isn't why other students or I get involved, it is an honor to be recognized for the work we're doing on campus. I hope that the initiatives that my fellow classmates and I have started continue in the future.
Location: One of the many things I did not take into account when I was looking at schools but ultimately realized is an extremely important factor to consider.
Luckily for me, I think that Stevens has one of the best locations that a student could ask for and here's why!
1) Access into NYC - Getting into the city is as easy as taking a bus or the Path. Also, from the freshman residence halls, we have a fantastic view of NYC (and in particular, the Empire State Building). There are so many things to do like going to a museum, seeing a broadway show, going to Central Park, and so many more!
2) Carlo's Bakery - Being a Stevens / Hoboken resident lets us CUT TO THE FRONT OF THE LONG LINE and get priority treatment to order one of their baked goods
3) Sports - We are near Madison Square Garden in NYC, Yankees and Mets Stadiums in NYC, the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, the Red Bulls Stadium, and the Prudential Center in Newark.
4) Home - Stevens is an hour by car and 2.5 hours by public transportation home. It is the perfect distance to have my freedom at school but can still go home easily and see my family.
Because my sister and I shared a car in high school, I decided I needed to get my own car for after graduation. My sister is keeping our '07 Toyota Corolla, and I went on the search for a new car. After a lot of searching and investigation, I went out with my family on Saturday morning and picked the car... a '11 Honda CRV. This is one of the many steps I'm taking towards being a "real person" as I like to joke... someone who has to pay for rent, pay for car payments, work, etc!
As for the race, it was what I was working towards for months! It was my first long race and was quite an experience. It was a learning experience (with regards to pace for a long race like that), but I am so happy that I did it. My sister and I ran together and kept a solid pace throughout the course. It was so awesome to participate. Rutgers is my mom's alma mater AND we saw a lot of other Stevens students and staff running / cheering at the race (it was held at Rutgers in New Brunswick). Woohoo!
And to top it all off, when I came back to campus it was the President's Reception! It's a great opportunity for accepted students to see what campus is like (not to mention eat all the great food). Some of my friends (fellow blogger, Julia, and Abel) gave speeches from a senior's perspective, and I heard they did very well... kudos to them :)
Hello readers! I've got some great news!
If you've been following my blog since 2008 (summer of my freshman year), you'll remember I took a one month seminar on Sysems Engineering in addition to doing my research in the Scholars Program. A few great things resulted from that class... 1) I found out more information about Systems Engineering and ultimately chose that for my Master's Degree, and 2) I met some wonderful people from Norway I would have never otherwise met.
One of the students in the class who I became close with, Thomas, is currently in the US and in Hoboken for the week to take a one-week seminar towards one of his classes. He is pursuing his Master's Degree in Systems Engineering at one of the universities in Norway (while working full-time), and his school has a partnership with Stevens that lets him take classes through Stevens that count towards his degree. Thomas and I have spoken on the computer, but we haven't seen each other in years! It's a blast from the past to be able to catch up with him face to face! It's amazing how much can happen in three years!

We are almost through Spirit Week!
What is Spirit Week you may ask?
It is a week's worth of spirited activities geared towards the undergraduate student body aimed to instill more Stevens spirit and pride! Spirit Week is the creation of me and my sister (Co-Spirit Chairs) on behalf of Gear & Triangle. Along with our Spirit Committee in G&T and the rest of the members, we have been planning and executing this week.
We have already done "Take A Picture With Attila Day" on Monday, "Duck Hunt Videogaming" on Tuesday, and a Spirit Tshirt Swap on Wednesday. They were all huge successes!

Yesterday was Stevens Spirit T-Shirt Swap. The premise is that we are trying to get students to get rid of their apparel from other schools and trade it in for a tshirt designed by yours truly :)
All tshirts collected are being donated to the Salvation Army. The tshirt logo is below!
The last event and the FINALE of the week's activities is tonight and is a Human Chess Match. We've asked faculty in playing a game of chess... with a twist. Their chess board is life-sized and their pieces will be played by students. We have bought the costumes and the various parts to make this event a success, so I'm definitely looking forward to it!
GO STEVENS SPIRIT!
One important thing that every college campus features and rarely gets publicity is the Campus Police. At Stevens, the police officers can be some of the friendliest and most helpful people on campus, so this blog is dedicated to the awesome work they do every day. They always seem to have the best interests of the students in mind no matter what it is they are doing.
Furthermore, they are also active throughout campus in other activities outside of their involvement in law enforcement. They've come to show their support at my sorority's pancake night, hosted self-defense seminars, and even driven me back to my apartment late at night when I lived in off-campus housing!
