This past Friday was bid day. It was the culmination of spring formal recruitment where men and women from campus who were interested in Greek life on campus received bids from one of the houses on campus inviting them for membership.
This time of the year is so exciting! For each Greek organization, this is when we get big additions to our house! For Phi Sigma Sigma, we were fortunate enough to add 21 new members to our pyramid (aka organization). I had to miss most of the recruitment events last week due to traveling, but now I get a better opportunity to meet all of our new members and welcome them into the sorority through the new member process! Since this is my last semester as an active sister, I am going to make the most of it! :)
I am a member of the Order of Omega, which is "a leadership honor society for members of Greek organizations. Order of Omega recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and within the Greek, campus, and local community. Members are selected from the top 3% of students at each institution. To date, over 500 chapters have been chartered throughout North America, each sharing the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution."
I got to fulfill a special duty during Bid Day through the Office of Student Life, which is the aegis for Greek life. On Friday evening, all of the men and women accepting their bids to one of the fraternities or sororities congregated in Schaefer gym for a quick introduction on behalf of student life, welcoming them into the Greek community. As the secretary of Order of Omega, I gave a quick speech to all of the new members telling them to take advantage of all of the opportunities that will be given to them in their respective organizations.
For these new members, these next few weeks will be the some of the most fond memories they will remember from college!
