MOVE IN & PRESEASON

MOVE IN

Last semester I applied and was accepted to live in the Lore El Center which is the housing for the Women's Resource Center on campus.  A week ago I moved into my room which took forever! My room is great and I will upload pictures once my roommate moves in and whatnot.

PRESEASON

I just glanced at Julia's post and saw she wrote about preseason so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon.  Preseason for field hockey this year has been rough! We've had a heat wave that has managed to perfectly align itself with the beginning of preseason.

I am a goalie so I'm sure you can imagine what it feels like to be in full equipment outside in the blistering heat.  If you can't picture it, take a look at all the equipment I put on everyday for practice...

Other than the heat, it has been tiring but wonderful.  I look forward to field hockey season all year and am very excited that it's begun! :)

We have a scrimmage tomorrow, so it'll be a good way to see how we stack up to other teams.

The Bodies Exhibit

I went into the City yesterday and saw the Bodies Exhibit and let me tell you how COOL it was.

It's right next to South Street Seaport (a short walk from the Path station). What an educational and eye opening experience!

It is an exhibit where you can see the wonders of the body... (I'll leave it at that)

It shows exactly what the body looks like.... everything from arteries, veins, organs, muscle tissue, etc.

I'm sure their website does a much better job than I could to explain what exactly it is.

If you have any interest in Bio or seeing how the body works, it is a MUST SEE!  I originally came into Stevens as a Biomedical Engineering major but have switched to Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering, so this was right up my alley.

 

KAYAKING ON THE HUDSON

Yes I did kayak on the Hudson today!

Unfortunately my the batteries in my camera died so I have no pictures :(

BUT IT WAS AWESOME!

The Hoboken Cove Boathouse offered 3 free days of kayaking and today was the last one.  After waiting for like 45 minutes, I was able to kayak in a little nook-type area on the Hudson River (a place safe enough where people couldn't float away and get lost).

Last Week

Summer has flown by like it always does...

This is my last week at L'Oreal for this summer.  Friday is my last day...
It was a great learning experience. I got so much out of it. I really didnt realize how beneficial the real work experience would be... to see engineering really applied out in the real world was so fantastic.

I encourage everyone to try and pursue an internship during their college career.  There really is no experience like work experience!

Anyways... so Friday is my last day at L'Oreal and then on Tuesday, PRESEASON FOR FIELD HOCKEY BEGINS!

As much as I LOVED working this summer, there is nothing like being in school. Yeah there may be more stress, but I really miss it!  Plus, the fact that field hockey will be in full swing soon is another added perk!

FUN FACT: On my 50 minute commute to and from L'Oreal everyday, I kept myself busy by keeping track of all the license plates that we passed (don't worry, I kept myself busy because I carpool and am NOT the driver ha).  We have 41 states listed... tell me you're not impressed!!

Did I Mention...

I saw Billy Joel and Elton John in concert on Thursday for their Face 2 Face tour!
I can't even tell you how good it was!

After seeing them play, it really makes me want to take a piano class (YES STEVENS OFFERS A PIANO CLASS AS AN ELECTIVE)!

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

On Monday I am giving a presentation to the head of all the departments in the plant I work and let's just say I am practicing, practicing, and doing a little more practicing.

Just like with studying for an exam, there is really no way to give a great, concise presentation unless you put in the hours ahead of time to prepare. It really is an art to give a good presentation.

Public speaking is actually one of the biggest phobias that many Americans have.

Hopefully, on Monday I will look like something like:
