Being a student athlete here at Stevens not only demands time in the classroom and on the field or court but also in the community. We are very big on community service both though the Athletics Department and through every activity on campus.
I was able to participate in 2 community service projects this week: the Duckling Program and the National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The Duckling Program in a nutshell is when a varsity team goes to an elementary school in program to teach a lesson about a given topic. The program started recently but it has been a major success! On Wednesday was the field hockey team's first visit of this year. We went into a fourth grade class to teach a lesson on teamwork. I think the kids really enjoyed our visit, and I can tell you that I had a lot of fun!
As for the National Girls and Women in Sports Day, it is an event that celebrates women in sports. Stevens decided to host clinics prior to the women's basketball game (which also happened to be senior day AND WBCA Pink Zone!). The clinics included: wrestling, soccer, field hockey, tennis, and volleyball. Everything went really well and everyone stayed to watch the women's team beat Utica in conference play :)
