Early Decision I Deadline is November 15

Don’t forget – the Early Decision I deadline is right around the corner! If you are applying EDI, make sure your application is submitted by November 15 and all supporting documents are received by December 4.

Did you know?...

• If you applied Regular Decision and now would like to apply Early Decision, simply contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to indicate your decision to switch and confirm your attendance by the ED commitment date.
• EDI candidates will be notified of the acceptance decision by December 15 – just one month!
• While Early Decision candidates may initiate applications to other colleges, if you are accepted ED and deposit to Stevens, then you must immediately withdraw all other applications and submit no new applications. The ED decision is binding when you commit to Stevens, which is required by the January 5, 2010 deadline.
• Students are reviewed for all scholarship and special academic programs; in addition if you file the CSS/PROFILE we can provide an estimated financial aid package at the point of acceptance.
• Early Decision students form the core of our freshman class: committed scholars dedicated to improving the way we live through innovation and entrepreneurship.

How do I contact my Admissions Counselor?
Applicants are able to find their admissions representatives by visiting the Find Your Counselor  or Contact links located on the admissions homepage. Feel free to e-mail or call your counselor with any questions about the application process or about Stevens in general. 

If I choose to switch my application from Regular Decision to Early Decision, what additional materials need to be submitted and who do I need to notify?
Candidates wishing to switch their application status from Regular to Early will need to send their admissions counselor an e-mail in order to officially have their application changed.  In addition, ED candidates need to submit the "Early Decision Agreement Form," as well as the "Financial Aid Form for Early Decision" if they intend to qualify for need-based aid. Both forms can be found at  http://www.stevens.edu/undergrad/ED.html. 

How many Clubs/Organizations are offered at Stevens?
There are currently over 120+ clubs/organizations on campus; feel free to check out the growing list of organizations at the Student Life Web site, http://www.stevens.edu/student_life/. If you find that a particular club is missing from the list, Stevens is a place where it is quite easy to start your own!!

Early Decision Quick Facts

Thirty-five percent of students admitted for Fall 2007 were Early Decision I or II applicants.

The acceptance rate for Early Decision candidates is 74 percent, significantly higher than the acceptance rate of regular decision candidates, which is below 50 percent.

Early Decision allows you to finish your college search earlier, giving you peace of mind as you prepare for college and enjoy the remainder of your senior year.

Early Decision students form the core of our freshman class: committed scholars dedicated to improving the way we live through innovation and entrepreneurship.

How to Apply

Submit your application by November 15 for Early Decision I and by January 15 for Early Decision II. Candidates should check the box on page one of the application indicating that they are applying for Early Decision I or II and submit the signed Early Decision Agreement Form (PDF, 33KB) with the application. It is imperative that you submit all transcripts and official scores by this date, as well as complete your admissions interview.

Supporting documents and requirements, such as transcripts, personal statement, recommendations, and the admissions interview, must also be received or completed by December 1, 2007 for Early Decision I and February 1, 2008 for Early Decision II.

Financial Aid

Candidates who are applicants for financial aid should complete the Financial Aid Application for Early Decision Applicants (PDF, 64KB) by December 4, 2007 (for Early Decision I ) to receive an estimate of your financial aid package.

Notification

Early Decision I (November 15 application deadline) applicants will be notified of the decision by December 15.

Early Decision II: Is it right for you?

Why should I choose Early Decision II?
Perhaps you weren’t ready to commit to one college as early as November. Now that you’ve learned more about the opportunities at Stevens, have visited our campus, or attended an event, perhaps you’ve decided that Stevens is the school for you. If that’s the case, you should consider submitting your application in time for Early Decision II.

What are the benefits of Early Decision II?
If you are accepted under the Early Decision plan, you will know by February 15th where you are going to college, and you can enjoy the rest of your senior year. You will also receive earlier notification of all need- and merit-based aid. If you plan to apply for financial aid, you should submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) between January 1 and January 15. Applications for need-based aid will be considered upon submission of the FAFSA.

What are my Early Decision responsibilities?
Early Decision II carries the same requirements as Early Decision I.

You must sign and return the Early Decision Agreement Form to us indicating that Stevens is your first-choice school. You can download the form from our Web site at www.stevens.edu/undergrad/earlydecision.

If you are accepted to Stevens and deposit, you will then need to withdraw all applications from other colleges.

When is my application due?
To be considered in the Early Decision II pool, your application must be received by January 15, 2008.

What if I already submitted my regular decision application and decide to switch to Early Decision II?
Simply send us a signed copy of the Early Decision Agreement form and a note indicating that you’d like to be considered under the earlier deadline.

How will I learn about my financial aid package?
As an Early Decision candidate, you will receive a priority financial aid package. Please submit your FAFSA as soon as it becomes available after January 1, 2008, but no later than January 15th. Be sure to use the Stevens code, 002639, on your form, and submit it to the federal government. All applicants are considered for merit awards regardless of whether they submit the FAFSA.

Do the application requirements change for Early Decision II?
No. We still require official test scores, transcripts, guidance and teacher recommendations, an interview, and a personal statement. We also ask that you submit your first quarter or mid-term grades.

How do I apply?
Use our online application at www.stevens.edu/undergrad/instructions or the The Common Application, found at www.commonapp.org.
