Three Conference Championship Titles for the Ducks!

A big weekend for the Ducks! Three teams took conference titles and each will advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Men’s soccer, who made it to the NCAA Championship last year, will once again be vying for the title after securing the Empire 8 title. This will be their seventh straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Read the full story: http://www.stevensducks.com/sports/msoccer/release.asp?release_id=5012

Women’s volleyball earned their third straight Empire 8 title, receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This will be their sixth consecutive appearance in the tournament. Read more: http://www.stevensducks.com/sports/wvball/release.asp?release_id=5009

The Ducks Take Flight

They made it to the NCAA Championships, and now they are poised to continue that success off the field as the seniors on the Stevens men’s soccer team move forward into their professional lives.

The four graduating seniors – Chris Greenfield (Civil), Craig Moquin (Mechanical), Jason Nachman (Civil) and Harry Papademas (Electrical) – have all secured post-graduation placements, either in full-time jobs or grad school. Coach Tim O’Donohue says: “I am very proud of all of the seniors. They were all great student-athletes and a true pleasure to coach and mentor. They will be sorely missed and I know that Stevens has prepared each of them for their next challenge."

Jason will be attending grad school where he will pursue his Master’s degree in structural engineering. He has been accepted to Penn State, North Carolina State and University of Maryland. Though he hasn’t decided which one he’ll begin this fall, Jason says: “After completing my Master’s degree, I hope to secure a job with a structural engineering firm, and ultimately obtain my Professional Engineers License.”

Chris has accepted a full-time position with Bank of America’s Global Equities Group. His job is set to begin in July. Harry secured a position as an Assistant Engineer with Jersey Central Power and Light. He will be located in Morristown.

Craig will be working at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc (BPMI), and is planning to move to Pittsburgh after graduation. “I have not been assigned to a specific group in the company yet, but I will be involved with either fleet support or the design of equipment used on naval ships and submarines,” he says of his position.

More Ducks Headed to NCAA Tournament

For the first time in the 13-year history of the program, the Stevens women’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Championships, claiming their first Empire 8 Conference title in the process. The excitement begins this Friday, as the Ducks face off against the University of Mary Washington at host location NYU.

The Ducks Don’t Stop!

Our men’s soccer team continues to make history! Today’s 4-1 win over Amherst in the NCAA semifinals secured Stevens a spot in tomorrow’s championship game.

The Ducks will meet Messiah tomorrow afternoon as they continue their quest to a national championship title. If you happen to be in the Greensboro, NC area, stop by and support our boys. If you can’t make it to NC, you can follow the action live:

Ducks Make History

The Ducks are heading south! On December 5th, the men’s soccer team will head to Greensboro, NC for the NCAA Division III semifinal matchup. Marking the first time in the history of Stevens Athletics a team has advanced to the national semifinals, Sunday night’s defeat of Middlebury sealed the deal for our men’s soccer team. 

Stevens will advance to play Amherst College, while the other national semifinal match will feature Messiah College and Loras College. The two winners will then meet in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship final on December 6th.

 

The match will be webcast live by the NCAA, so Ducks fans who can’t make it to Greensboro will still be able to follow all the action. Check back for updates or visit www.stevensducks.com for more information and a link (when available) to the webcast.

 

The Stevens Ducks: Achieving the highest standards in academics and athletics

Stevens Institute of Technology has been selected as the recipient of the 2008 ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year award. The award is given annually to the ECAC institution that best exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate academic and athletic performance. Stevens joins the likes of past Division I winners Princeton University, Harvard University, University of Maryland - College Park, and Georgetown University.

Hoffman Brothers Earn Academic All-America Honors from CoSIDA

The College Sports Information Directors of America announced it’s field of recipients for the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans, and Michael Hoffman and John Hoffman from Stevens Institute of Technology received first-team and second-team accolades, respectively. The men received the awards from the College Division for their performances during the cross country/track and field seasons.

Last month, the Hoffman brothers were selected as first-team recipients to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, and they were put on the ballot to receive Academic All-America honors. This marks the second time in Michael’s four-year career that he has received All-America honors and the first time for John.

Three Stevens Athletes Named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District First-Team

Stevens Institute of Technology athletes Michael Hoffman, John Hoffman and Joe Fullam were named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District first-teams for men’s track and field/cross country in the College Division (District II) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only 10 scholar-athletes were chosen as first-team recipients this year in the College Division (District II), meaning that Stevens’ students represent 30% of the team. As first-team recipients, all three will now be included on the All-America ballot.
