Stevens Seniors Weigh Multiple Job Offers

By Regina Pynn, '11

Though there are still five months until graduation, many graduating seniors have already received and accepted full-time job offers.  Working closely with the Office of Career Development (OCD), some of those seniors even have the luxury of choosing between three or more dream jobs.

Pedro Ardila from Miami, FL received five job offers from prestigious companies, including Bear Stearns, Johnson & Johnson, and Vanguard.  He has accepted a position with Microsoft.

"I always wanted to work for a company like Microsoft, but I always thought I did not have what it takes to get such a job. Once I started interviewing, I realized that I had the skills necessary to become a successful professional at a prestigious company."

Senior Jonathan Matos (Stony Point, NY) also found himself offered a dream position.

"I received three offers in total: United Parcel Service (UPS) gave me a standing offer to work in their Industrial Engineering Department after I finished my last Co-Op term this past summer. After going on interviews I received offers from BAE Systems in Wayne, NJ and Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks, CT." Jonathan accepted a position as Project Engineer at Hamilton, which he says has always been a dream of his due to the company's work with NASA.

Alicia Mahon (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ) also received multiple job offers, even though she never applied for any! The Environmental Engineering student is staying at Stevens for her Master's but says companies were still eager to have her.

"[The companies] saw my resume from the Stevens resume book or the Co-Op resume book, so I was happy that I was able to get an interview without even having to apply!"

These students are not unique in the Stevens graduating class: Last year, 73 percent of graduating seniors received at least two job offers and 41 percent received three or more. These offers are sometimes made almost a year before the student actually graduates, showing how in-demand Stevens graduates are.
