Stevens MIDI Guitar Orchestra Debuts

A group of Stevens Institute of Technology Music and Technology students are using technology to push the boundaries of music. Their recent performance was featured on Sonic State, a Web site for synthesizer buffs.

World-renowned guitarist Carlos Alomar (David Bowie) directed a group of Stevens students in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem, played on guitar synthesizers. Using MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), technology, the student’s guitars took on the sound of a full orchestra. The students, called the Mini-Midi-Magic Orchestra, performed as part of a Department of Art, Music & Technology showcase.
